The SIFL − About

Founded in 2000 as four local expat teams and one Vietnamese side decided to compete on a more formal basis. Saigon Japan FC, Saigon Saints FC, Saigon Raiders FC and Saigon Olympique have participated in every league season since. Other teams recently welcomed into the SIFL are RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, student team), Phone Viet and LDC (local Vietnamese teams) and Les Gaulois de Saigon, a new French team.

The league is 100% amateur and the only one of it’s kind in HCMC. Starting in September and finishing in February, the league teams also compete for the ‘Saigon International Cup’ in March.

A ‘Champions of Vietnam’ cup will join the calander in 2008, featuring a weekend cup competition between the top expat teams from the SIFL and the Hanoi Amateur League.

In 2007, the SIFL formed a committee consisting of the four teams who have partaken since its origins - Raiders, Saints, Olympique and Japan FC. The committee was formed to bring stability, organization and direction to the league for many years to come.
